Project Features:

This project involved the construction of a new 2.4km single carriageway link road from the A32 to an 800 unit private housing development which was undergoing development. It commenced in September 2000 and was completed in June 2002.

The Link-Road crossed the existing public highway at 5 locations. One of these crossing points became a major traffic light junction (A32). Another 2 were new traffic light junctions with one Roundabout and one give way junction.

Most of the carriageway construction was across MOD land and 1.1km was constructed through an existing housing estate along the line of an ex-MOD light gauge railway line (average corridor width approximately 12m), which connected two Naval Armaments Depots. Highway boundary walls (to industrial and domestic properties) had to be built along the line of the existing boundary along this section
